Summer Is Coming

Summer is coming. I think I speak for everyone in Oregon when I say FINALLY! The good news is that warm air and long nights are here. As we prepare for #campmommy, here are a few pics of us romping around the pearl.IMG_2049Don’t miss the drool coming out Pepper’s mouth and Blaize’s chocolate coated mouth, post Kai’s birthday cupcake. Haha! Happy girls!IMG_1677Pepper biking in the Pearl in her Elsa glory!IMG_0770So much love! Summer Reading Program Still Rocks!

So, the summer reading program kicked off yesterday and we were there to sign up! It’s our 3rd year in a row and it’s hard core this year. They have official dates when you can finish your reading to spread it out a bit more. Also, there is one grand prize of a Great Wolf Lodge trip at the end of the summer. Dear God. Kai is having a hard time understanding that only one family will win that trip and it has very little to do with how fast you read… Lol I told him I’m still recovering from our Great Wolf Lodge trip this year and planning Legoland. “The things we do for love.” IMG_2155Blaize, Kai and Pepper sorting the cookies at the library for a “cookie sale.

Great Wolf Lodge

Great Wolf Lodge in all it’s glory.

Barefoot, indoor waterpark with screaming kids and hairy dad bods everywhere. I wanted to take my kiddos to Great Wolf Lodge for at least a year. Then Mimi hosted her 60th birthday party there and that itch was scratched. lol Let’s just say I’m good, and not curious anymore about the Great Wolf Lodge. 🙂IMG_9090The whole gang before we suited upIMG_9058The Great Wolf Bear SnuggleIMG_9047Mimi rocking 60 with the Great Wolf Lodge Bear!

Twins, Keeping it Fair Daily

Pretty sure all moms feel the pressure squeeze with “keeping it fair” and “keeping it even” with multiple kids. I’m constantly trying to give special attention to each one of my 3 little peanuts. This morning, Pepper told me she was so mad at me with a tear in her eye. I asked her why and she said because I brushed Blaize’s hair first… I kept my surprise face inside, showed Pepper my straight face and told her that tomorrow she would get her hair brushed first. Gave her a big hug and voila, we were happy and smiling again!

This is a regular event with my 4 1/2 identical twin girls. Who get’s to hold mom’s hand? Who gets the first sip of water? Who gets the first bedtime song? As I navigate being a mama bear to my feisty, twin girls I want to remember that I’m not alone. Sending an air fist bump to all my mamas out there who juggle with “keeping it fair” with their littles.IMG_8567Twin Love!

Pokemon Go Makes a Strong Come Back At Our House

Yes, we play Pokemon Go. Yes, we like it. Yes, we are safe. Last summer when Pokemon Go came out, I downloaded it thinking it would be fun for Kai. Turns out, it’s fun for both of us!

I know the Pokemon Go gets a lot of bad press. Much like the rest of my life, I focus on the positive parts. Such as getting outside and walking all around the city to find Pokemon. As long as you’re safe and use common sense, I believe getting out and about with Pokemon Go is always better than drawing the shades and parking it on the couch in front of the gameboy/ipad/Wi or whatever other zombie device you prefer.

My kids are trained to chant “Eyes up, phone down” anytime we near crossing a street. Personally, I think this is a good chant for anyone walking outside whether you’re texting, emailing or rocking the Pokemon Go. IMG_0337The new meaning to double fisted. Last summer, I started my own game on another phone. This lasted for a short time.

After taking a few months off from the Pokemon Go, we are back at it! I love to fill Kai’s bag with goodies by walking around the city and collecting goodies at poke stops for him. Like any good kid, he likes to “use the stuff I collect” so we make a pretty rad team if you ask me.

In the beginning of Pokemon Go, it’s really easy to Level Up because it only takes 1000 points or so. That goes away once you hit level 20. IMG_9928We are so close to leveling up to 24 and I will not stop until we do. Lol! Spoken like the Dedicated Pokemon Go mama that I am. Happy Adventuring my friends!

UPDATE: Less than 24hours and I was able to Level up to 24! Hardwork and dedication really do pay off. 🙂IMG_9966.PNG

Laundry with 3 little peanuts is a daily struggle

You know how they say you spend 1/3 of your life in bed so buy a good mattress? Well, it feels like I spend 1/3 of my life doing laundry. These little people below love to CHANGE their clothes all day long. I’ve implemented a new house rule of wearing jammies for 2 nights. Even that is not sticking well, because they forget a lot. Kai always looks surprised when I remind him as he’s tearing his jammies off and throwing them in the laundry basket. And Blaize and Pepper are the worst for constantly changing clothes. They’ll look at a princess dress, put it on for a hot minute and call it “dirty” long before it’s time. Lately, they all help me (in their own special way) with laundry from washing to folding Hoping it’s going to change sometime soon. And if it doesn’t, I’ll just relish these crazy group hugs that bring me to my knees and make me smile. IMG_9837Our group hugs often slide to the ground. It’s something to see especially in public at Starbucks.IMG_9865.jpgOur infamous sock pile that makes me dizzy

Portland Streetcar to the Library

Last year, Blaize and Pepper called the streetcar the “choo choo” this year they call it the train. Things are changing. IMG_9296Riding the streetcar is still a treat for my little peanuts. Pretty sure I’m the only one who drags the double Bob stroller with me on city adventures. What can I say, it’s a great place to stow your purse and snacks and little people if their feet get tired. IMG_9310Posing outside the downtown library.IMG_9304It’s hard to tell but Pepper was so happy riding the streetcar. Teach Resilience to our kids

When I was a little girl it was important to “be good” and that was enough. Recently, at our 4 year old pediatrician appointment the infamous Dr. Birk reminded me that resilience not just happiness is what parents should focus on. He recommended  a book to help teach resilience that I’ve read before but will read again-Raising An Emotionally Intelligent Child by John Gottman.IMG_8970Blaize and Pepper sandwiching me while snuggling their giant Elsa dolls

Resilience definition: an ability to recover from or adjust easily to misfortune or change

Luckily my 3 critters will probably learn resilience due to the numbers game. I’m completely outnumbered and It’s zone defense for me most of the time. Having to wait turns, share and helping each other might be a blessing in disguise.

Do I want my kids to grow up with resilience and humility? Absolutely!

Sounds so weird to say but “back in my day” I was taught to take care of myself and my siblings at a very young age. I was paid $1/hour to watch my little sister when I was 9 or 10 years old while my parents worked. Nowadays, I prefer babysitters to be in their 20’s at least. It’s a different world. And we stay with our kids a lot longer than they probably need us to. IMG_7761Getting our fresh air on while walking around in the pearl

Most of the time, I’m one of two parents downstairs at the bus top in the Pearl district with 30 other kids. It’s very safe with Chapman Elementary Kindergarten right next to the bus stop and kindergarten teachers everywhere. However, I just like walking my Kai bear down to the bus stop and waving goodbye to him.

IMG_9111So, I will continue to walk Kai downstairs to the bus stop with the 30 other kids. And plan on him learning his resilience skills from our big, little beautiful family!

“Que Sera Sera”

Endless Summer With My 3 Babes

Do you remember the Endless Summer movie? Me too. I’m having a little bit of that except mine is ensconced with 3 year old twins and a 6 year old little boy! Kai started first grade and is nailing it. Blaize and Pepper officially start part time preschool in 2 weeks and it’s gunna be something..

img_2742Recently, I caught up with a friend who reminded me that stretching ourselves in life, fitness and work is a gift. I believe this whole heartedly but loved being gently reminded. img_0669Yes, #campmommy is stretched as we choose a new, exciting activity/adventure every single day-deep into September. Yes, #campmommy is ready for bed at 8pm. Yes, I am one lucky mama every. single. day.

Living the Dream in the Pearl

Funny how life works, I’m back where I started.

I moved to Portland in 2004 from Santa Monica, CA to buy a house before I turned 30 years old. My plan was to buy a house, rent it out and keep exploring and traveling. Surprisingly, I ended up loving Portland (like everyone else) and decided to stay. I started in NW Portland at the base of Lower Mckleay park almost 12 years ago. I loved the area and felt like it was a great landing pad to “experience” Portland. I lived in Northeast Portland in my 30’s and recently relocated to the Pearl. I always thought it would be fun to live in the Pearl and enjoy the city. And here I am living in the Pearl with my 3 babydolls and enjoying the city every single day. The Pearl is shockingly kid friendly with a great playground (Field’s Park), water fountain park (Jameson Square) and even an off leash dog park.

Life is good and one surprise after another!
